My Advice to You

So, Welder Guy and I have been married for six months. That doesn't make me an "expert" by any means. I don't think I'll ever be an expert, but I do have some advice for newlyweds or engaged couples. Women, don't lose yourself. You are so much more than "so-and-so's wife." I know how exciting it is to say "that's my husband." Trust me, I do. I still get excited saying it, but no matter how much I love Welder Guy, I am more than just "Welder Guy's wife." I am Sarahbellum. I am stubborn, mature, immature, hard-working, Starbucks Barista, daughter, sister, friend. I love Welder Guy with everything I am, and I will always be Welder Guy's wife, but I am not JUST Welder Guy's wife. I think it's silly to combine EVERYTHING after marriage. Why do you need to combine your facebook accounts? Your myspace accounts? Your email addresses? Your bank accounts? Now, don't get me wrong. Welder Guy and I have a joint bank account, but we also have our separate accounts. We have one joint email address, but we have kept our individual as well. We are not joining our facebook/myspace accounts. We are still our own people. I don't understand losing yourself in a marriage. Marriage is when two people come together to make a better unit. Welder Guy and I were individuals before we met. We're still individuals, but we make each other happy, so we joined together as one unit. I don't understand never being Sarahbellum again. Why be Sarahbellum Welder Guy?

Christmas

Well, I'm officially done Christmas shopping... now I'm just waiting for one more thing to actually get here. Welder Guy's got a few surprises coming... I'll share what they are in a later post, just so nothing accidentally gets out before I'm ready for it to. I ordered him two things on Monday and one has come today and the other is still in Oklahoma. lol. I'm heading to his parents house in just a bit to make sure that I don't need to buy more things to make the one present useful to him. I want to make sure it has everything he'll need for it so we're not shopping around later on.

I got my Christmas present today. Welder Guy wasn't even about to let me be surprised. I even ordered it myself, used our joint account (my card) to pay for it, and I ordered other stuff with it. I got a nice wool dress coat (my present), but I also ordered leggings and a dress. It's not really dress weather, but I can't pass up a good deal on a dress knowing I'm not really changing sizes anymore (like a kid). The leggings aren't quite what I expected but they will definitely work. I bought them so I can wear dresses in the fall, but they go down to my ankles (I should have expected this as I'm short and capris are ankle length). I'll just have my mom hem them so they are mid-calf. She's crafty like that.

I also have an order from one of my best friends in high school coming. She's a "Scentsy" rep, and they sell wick-less candles and warmers. I found a warmer that I'm absolutely in love with. It's a damask pattern and it's black and white. I also ordered three different scents to go in it. If I find that my "tarts" from Bed Bath and Beyond work in it, I'll just buy them there and save myself the shipping cost. They have about 50 scents there too. And they are CHEAP! Ahhh! I'm excited just thinking about it.

I also ordered two magazine subscriptions for $5 a piece. Cosmo and Fine Living. I figured for $5 a magazine at the grocery store, $5 for a year's worth was worth my time and money. Speaking of, I need to call Publishers Clearing House. They started sending me a subscription to Cosmo and now they want $22. Last month, it was $12 they wanted, and I called them to tell them I never ordered it and to cancel it, and they said fine but then I got a past due bill. I'm not sure if it was sent before everything was final or not, so I'll call them just to make sure. Ok, well, I'm at Starbucks and I'm getting tired of typing so I'm going to cut this short! Talk to you all soon!

Vegetable Lasagna and Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

The bread is AMAZING! I think maybe with some bananas that are more ripe, it would be better, as the only bananas the store had tonight were green. But it's still really good.

I made veggie lasagna tonight as well. It had ricotta cheese, basil, garlic, tomatoes, zuchini, carrots, noodles and mozerella cheese. MMMMMMM!

Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

I found this recipe, and haven't tried it yet, but want to, so this is my way of "storing" it, so to speak.

Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

(makes 1 large loaf or 4 mini loaves)

1 1/4 cup sugar
1 stick (1/2 cup) butter
2 eggs
1/2 cup milk
3-4 mashed bananas
1 tsp vanilla
2 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 – 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
walnuts if desired

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Cream together sugar and butter, add eggs one at a time. Mix in milk, bananas and vanilla. Stir in dry ingredients.

Pour into greased loaf pan. Bake for about 60 mins for regular loaf pan, or 30 mins for mini loaves.

Holidays

I'm so not ready for the holidays. I am in my head, but our house is NOT in any way at all. We just recently acquired another couch, and have expanded our living area to include 80% of the living room. Now, we just need to clean out the space by my fish tank and then there will be room for the tree. I have no idea what to get anyone for Christmas but my brother.

Alright, so this blog post is going to be cut short due to having to find the bug that just bit me on my side. OUCH!

Welder Guy's new job.

So about a week before the wedding, Welder Guy was laid off from the company he's been with for about five years. They are SUPER slow and had to lay guys off in order to stay afloat. Welder Guy is one of the first guys they will be hiring back when they get busy again, but for now, he's not working for S. In July, he went to work for K, which didn't pay well at all, and he hated. He said the work was easy but that he was bored and didn't know how to give only $13/hr worth of work, as he's a hard worker and doesn't go to work to gossip. After working for K for about 4 months, he decided to head down to the next "big town" and work for L. He's been there a week and I'm already sick of it! He leaves at 540 every morning, and he gets home a few minutes after 430. I have been going to work at 3 or 4, and I get home after 8. This leaves us about an hour before bed to be with each other. I feel like I never see him! I miss my husband! And... the money still isn't great!

My birthday

So it's been almost two weeks since my birthday, and aside from the delay, it was wonderful! Welder Guy and I got up and he made me chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast. We left the house at about 10am and headed down to Best Buy to pick up a present for FIL's birthday and Welder Guy bought me a new cell phone for my birthday. Then, we headed over to Apple Hill and met my mom there and we went to Kids Incorporated and one other stop. We had delicious cider, apple fritters and apple donuts. We brought home frozen apple pies. it was a beautiful day. We ended the day by going to The Melting Pot in Sacramento. We started out with two cheese fondues (one with beer, and one with artichoke hearts and spinach). We had apples and carrots/celery/cauliflower, and bread to dip in them. Then we had one vegetable broth pot and one hot oil pot for dipping our chicken breasts, pork, beef, shrimp and assorted vegetables. Oh, I almost forgot, before the broth and oil, we had salad. Anyways, after that we had a bananas foster chocolate fondue and a black and white chocolate fondue. We got bananas, strawberries, rice krispy treats, marshmallows, brownies, etc. for that. It was amazing food!

Chores

So I don't mind doing the household stuff. Cleaning the floors, loading and unloading the dishwasher, cleaning the rodent cages, dusting, taking the garbage out... however, there is one chore I absolutely HATE more than anything. The laundry. I don't mind throwing the clothes in the washer, throwing them in the drier, things like that... But I hate folding and putting them away. So much. My mom came up a few months ago (maybe like 6-8 weeks ago), and we got the whole house in order, and the only thing left to do was put the laundry away. Well, I still haven't done it. It's still sitting on my dining room table. I've added to it. Taken some clothes into the bedroom and put them away, but I just can't get myself to stand there and put it all away. It's driving me nuts! I finally got up the nerve today to fold it, and now I only have one more load to go. Wish me luck!

My Birthday...

...is tomorrow! I'm so excited. I'll be 23. I never thought at 23 I'd be happily married to the most amazing man ever. But... I am. lol. I'm hoping to wake up to breakfast (he's already asked what I want) and then we'll be heading to Apple Hill, with a stop into Best Buy for a bday gift for FIL's birthday, and we're meeting Mom up there. Then we're going down to my parent's house and The Melting Pot for dinner! Pictures to come.

Cashew Update!

He's officially eaten all of the roof over his head. When I go over there now, he sticks his nose out of the top and sniffs my hand like "Hi Mom! Can you see me?"

Good Dog Red

So last week, on Thursday, Linlah dropped off her and Scout's dog, Red. Red is a boxer and is seriously the best dog I've ever met. He has the most amazing manners ever, except when he wants to sit at your feet, as he doesn't care that your feet are under his 70 lb. butt. We had the pleasure of watching him while they went out of state for Linlah's son's wedding. She came back and got him on Tuesday, and honestly, I miss his goofy-ness. This is the picture I got as Linlah pulled out of our driveway on Thursday morning:

And this is the picture of him when I had McDonald's french fries and wouldn't share with him. I sat down on the floor in front of the coffee table and after telling him "no", he laid down and put his face under the table. He is the cutest!

Ah, Linlah! Anytime you need a babysitter, PLEASE let us know! It would be a complete pleasure to watch him again!

Cashew

Cashew is a guinea pig that we acquired from my "sister" Nancy. She had two and those two had a few and Cashew wasn't too fond of his offspring. So, he came to live with us. We've had him for quite a few months, and he's just a complete lovebug. He loves to be held, he loves carrots and he loves to talk to me when I'm in the kitchen. Anyways, I bought a plastic house for our other guinea pig, but when he died I cleaned it and gave it to Cashew. Well, he's been driving me insane because he chews on it and it makes this horrible noise. Not to mention the fact that I paid like $25 for it and it kills me that he's eating it. So, two weekends ago Norman and I were down in Sacramento and my mom bought Cashew an edible house. It's made of alfalfa and honey and 100% of it is edible. Well, here he was on day one:

He started eating it immediately. But only the roof. By day four, he had eaten all of the grass hanging over the edges... here's a picture of that:

Here is a picture from today:

Pretty soon he will have no roof over his head... It will be a sad day for Cashew.

Baby Fever?

Oh my. I'm sitting on the couch blogging while my potatoes cook and my husband is outside working on the driveway. I'll be 23 in less than two weeks and I can't shake the baby fever. When I was 18, I pictured myself finding a nice guy at around 25, getting married in my late twenties, having babies at around 30. I met Welder Guy a few months before my 19th birthday and all of that went out the window. We were together for 3 years before he proposed (right before my 22nd birthday), and 4 months ago we got married, just shy of 4 years together. I swear the night of our wedding, we got home, sat on the couch to open gifts and all I could hear was "tick tock tick tock." I'm 22 years old! I'm not ready to have babies. Our house isn't finished. Welder Guy isn't back at Sierra. I work at Starbucks! Nothing is in order for having babies. We own a 2 bedroom house, but rent the spare bedroom out... So this child that I want doesn't even have a bedroom at this point. Everything in my head says "you're crazy! you're young! what the hell are you thinking? not now!" and my heart just really wants a baby. I feel so bad for Welder Guy. I keep making jabs at him about it. Not to be mean, but to make him want one too. It's not even his "permission" I seek... I just want him to realize that it wouldn't be all bad... then I think I would have the ability to let it go for a while. Just knowing he wants one would make my want so much less. Everywhere we go, there is a pregnant lady... or a lady with a new baby. It's driving me crazy! Ok, back to reality... I just needed to vent!

Woohoo!

Welder Guy sold his first trommel! He put them on Ebay two weeks ago, and nothing happened, so we relisted it last Sunday and it got up to $430, but didn't meet the reserve of $500 so it didn't sell. Anyways, it gave us the option to sell it to the highest bidder for $430 so we did. This is so exciting for us! Welder Guy is going to start building it tonight, and we'll get it sent out asap, and then Welder Guy can get some feedback as a seller instead of just a buyer. I'm so excited!

Today is...

...my favorite Aunt's birthday. I know you don't read this, and as soon as I'm done posting this, I'm going to call you... but HAPPY BIRTHDAY TEETEE!

A New Venture

So last weekend, Welder Guy came home from serving at a FFA Dinner and decided to post his "creation" on ebay. Now, I'm a big fan of ebay, and an even bigger fan of my husband, but this is a rather new venture for us. He built a Gold Mining Trommel and decided it would be a fantastic idea to sell it on ebay. It cost about $250 to make, and they sell from $800-$1500. Well, I'm all for this venture, as extra money never killed anyone, and I've been helping him out as much as possible. Last week I just sat and supported as the days dwindled down, and no bids were placed on his listing. So, this morning, he lowered the starting price a bit, had me take some videos of it working, and we reposted it. We've got one or two bids on it, but no reserve price has been met yet, which is okay. I don't really want to lose my husband as he makes these machines for people, but I know how important it is to support him in this venture. I'm really excited for him and am hoping that he does well with this, but I'm a little skeptical too. I'll keep you updated on how we're doing. The auction expires next Sunday morning.

New layout

I'm sticking with this one (the "zoo" or something like that). The one I had the other day was black, white and pink, but it looked funky and people couldn't post comments without having a blogspot account. I'm pretty sure anyone can post comments now. And I love the giraffe. <3

Ice Cream

I made ice cream. And it's fantastic! I wanted to make peach or raspberry ice cream, but Welder Guy wanted to grow a pineapple from a pineapple top (yes, you can actually do that), so he bought a pineapple and we decided to do pineapple/coconut ice cream.
Here is the recipe:
4 cups milk/half and half/cream
2 cups whipping cream
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla

Mix all ingredients until sugar is disolved and put into your ice cream maker to freeze.

It took our ice cream maker about an hour, and then I scooped it out and put it in a bowl with a lid on it and put it in the freezer. Of course I had to taste it. It's delicious, but I think next time we'll use our normal recipe (I don't have it so I found another to use for this batch of ice cream). Anyways, I'm just waiting for Welder Guy to get home from the dump so we can have dinner. We're having a pork roast that I put in the crockpot last night with some beer, garlic, salt, pepper, onion, carrots, potatoes and a little bit of water. It smells sooooooo good!

So I wasn't "tagged" but I stole a survey...

What is your husband's name?
His name is Welder Guy. Well, at least on here it is.

How long have you been married?
A little over three months.

How long did you date?
We dated over three years before getting engaged and were married right before our four year anniversary.

How old is he?
He is 25

Who eats sweets?
We both do, but different kinds of sweets. Welder Guy loves cookies and cake and brownies and the such and I love candy.

Who said "I Love You" first?
I did. Almost three months after we started dating.

Who is taller?
He is by 14 inches.

Who can sing best?
Neither one of us is very good, but we both do it.

Who is smarter?
We are equally smart, just about different things.

Who does the laundry?
I do most of it, but he does his when he's running out of something.

Who pays the bills?
We each pay the same bills we paid before we got married.

Who sleeps on the right side of the bed?
If you are standing at the foot of our bed, facing it, I'm on the right.

Who mows the lawn?
He does. Speaking of, it needs it... bad.

Who cooks dinner?
We both do... it depends. If I work til 8, dinner is normally done about the time I get home, but if I'm off or not working at night, I cook.

Who drives?
Usually he does, but it really just depends on which car we take.

Who is the first to admit they are wrong?
We're both really bad about this!

Who kissed who first?
He kissed me. On our first date. In the car.

Who asked who out first?
I asked him to meet me at the drive-ins for our very first date, but he asked me to be his girlfriend later on.

Who wears the pants?
We both do. I'm not big on the "dominant/submissive" rolls that a lot of husbands and wives pull off, mostly because while I feel that he is the provider for our family, I'm not going to be a slave and I'm not going to keep quiet when I have an opinion.

How did you meet?
We met for our first date on June 17th, 2005 at the driveins. We had been talking and I asked him to meet me and my best friend at the time, who was also going to meet her bf at the driveins...

Trying out a new layout

I think I like it. It's not exactly what I was going for, but it's a nice change from the dots I had before. I'll see if it grows on me... I might have to "hire" someone to make one for me... A friend, not someone I pay... I'm just not html smart anymore. *sad face*

Winnemucca was... GREAT!

We went to Winnemucca and had a blast. Welder Guy and I left home at 3pm on Tuesday, September 1st, and pulled into the sand dunes at 930pm. Unfortunately, we got stuck getting in thru the soft sand, so we spent the night in the entrance, and got out the next morning and spent Wednesday night out by the highway. FIL and MIL pulled in Wednesday night late and we all spent the night by the highway. Thursday morning, FIL and Welder Guy took another look at the entrance and decided FIL's truck would make it aired down, so we ran to town and bought an air compressor so that they could air down and not drive back to town to have to air up when we left. So we got back to the dunes, and FIL aired down and made it thru in one try, then came back out to the road and got Welder Guys's truck and trailer and pulled us in. Thursday night, Mr. Patterson and his Mrs. were due up, but they made it so late that they stayed in town and came out to the dunes Friday morning. Their dog, Tug, is the cutest thing ever by the way. We went on some good rides (long and tired and rides where we saw new things), and we went on some not so good rides (one ride in particular where my nose started bleeding because of how dry it was up there and wouldn't stop bleeding, or the ride where Welder Guy KILLED his bike, or the one where he was on FIL's bike and he broke the spark plug while it was in the motor!). All in all, it was a great time and we got some great pictures.

8/31/2009

Winnemucca

We're leaving tomorrow and not coming back until Monday! Woohoo! We haven't been to the sand since April, and I'm craving some quality riding. I get to ride with just Welder Guy for a day, and then his parents will be up, and then the next night the Pattersons are coming up. It's going to be a good trip!

8/17/2009

Ok, he's all better!

He was only down for about a day! This is a very good thing... I was afraid he had a bug and I was going to come down with it. He stayed home Friday and on Saturday we went to Amanda and Jeremy's wedding... It was beautiful. Sunday we went to the Nevada County Fair and the Destruction Derby. It was so much fun! Anyways, just a little update before I go to work for the night!

Welder Guy is Sick!

For the first time in the four years we've been together, my husband laid in bed this morning at around 530 and called his boss to say "hey, I'm not coming in today..." I was shocked. I mean, he did spend the entire night in the bathroom with his head in the toilet, but he has NEVER called in before. We've spent the entire day laying around in our PJ's watching TV, which is REALLY nice, despite him being sick. I know he doesn't feel good based on the fact that he's not up doing things... He doesn't ever lay on the couch... ever. Not for a whole day anyways. I got up this morning at around 9 and when he finally joined me in the living room, he asked me to go to the store and get him soup. We always have soup in our house, but this one time when we NEED it, we don't have any... of course! So I ran to our little store here in P.V. and got him soup and clear soda. He's been nursing a bottle of 7up and a can of chicken noodle soup (minus the noodles, lol) all day. I just got up and put my dinner on, as it is that time. He's going to have, you guessed it, more soup! I sure hope he's feeling better by tomorrow because we're supposed to go to a wedding in Lodi, and I'm actually looking forward to it. Also, I'm really hoping he doesn't have that stupid stomach flu that's going around because I don't want it... I don't have the patience for it! Anyways, off to check on my dinner!

8/13/2009

I want to be lazy

I get up every morning, with the intention of doing all kinds of things, and then I jump on this damn laptop and end up sitting here until I am running short on time and HAVE to get up. I don't know why either. Well, today I do know why, but every other day I don't. Today, I'm hurting. It's that time and I'm cramping really bad. Sitting here doesn't help, moving does, but who wants to move when they feel like this? I sure don't. I have to be at work at 230, but I have to go early because the fair is in town and I can't be late due to fair traffic. I'm really craving a McDonald's chicken sandwich with ranch and french fries... so I may go early, get past the traffic, and go to McDonalds. Who knows? I told Welder Guy I'd go to the store today, this morning actually, but I think I'm going to make a quick trip tonight. That'll still put me home before 730, which is still earlier than I've even been getting off of work... so that'll be nice. And today, although most people's Thursday, is my Friday! I'm going to have a beer tonight. Celebrate. I haven't had a lot of work this week, but damn it's sure dragging. I think part of it is the fair. We have EVERYONE coming in our store, and I'm not saying that fair-going people aren't nice, as a whole, but these ones are rude, and a lot of them smell bad. I have nothing against you if you have bad B.O... I mean, it's not your fault, but that doesn't mean I want to smell it. If you really really really need a Venti Extra Caramel with Whip Caramel Frapp, just please spray yourself with some cologne or something before walking in my door. You don't want me puking as I'm making your drink, trust me.

Wedding Wrap Up

Welder Guy and I got married a little over two months ago. Looking at all of our pictures makes me wonder, "will I ever get sick of looking at them?" I sure hope not. I love the emotion and the memories that our photographer captured. She had never done a wedding before, but if Welder Guy and I did it all over again, she would still be our first choice. She knew us before the wedding, so there was no "Hi, nice to meet you. I'm getting married today!" ackwardness. She is one of our amazing quad riding buddies, and she shot two or three engagement sessions for us. When Welder Guy proposed, I didn't even look up photographers online or ask for recommendations. I already knew who I wanted to ask. Anyways, here are some of my favorites from our wedding:

Law and Order: SVU

I'm obsessed with this show. It's so... sick. I realize none of these are "true" stories, but if they aren't based off of real cases, then whoever writes them should go to prison for having a sick mind. Regardless, I still love this show. I can watch episode after episode (which I get to do quite often as our DVR is "trained" to record EVERY episode). I just hate thinking about how these "sicko's" are out in our world. Can't we ship them all off to an island or something?

Hot August Nights

Welder Guy and I made the trip to Reno this morning to see some of the cool cars at Hot August Nights. We generally just go to the Grand Sierra Resort and then to the Petro Truck Stop to see the really cool Semi-Trucks, but for some reason this year, the Semi-Truck show wasn't anywhere to be found. I guess they cancelled it this year. Anywho, we left the house at around 1100am on Saturday, and got to Reno at around 1245pm. Our first stop was Grand Sierra Resort (they have an awesome outdoor swing that Welder Guy and I will be going on at some point). The Grand Sierra Resort used to be the Hilton and is off of 395. There were a lot of cool trucks there, as well as some cool cars. Then, we headed to get gas (I love my camry but with the V6 and my lead foot, it's a gas guzzler). After filling my tank up, we went to SK Noodle for lunch, and it is seriously the best chinese food I've ever had! Then, we went in search of the Semi-Trucks, with no luck. So we headed to Summit Racing so that Welder Guy could pick up some parts... but oh yeah, he didn't bring his wallet, so I paid the $70 for his parts. lol. Here are some pictures from the Grand Sierra Resort.

First Post

So I decided to start this blog as a way to keep everyone up to date on everything without having to clog my facebook profile with a bunch of updates. Eventually, when Welder Guy and I have babies, I will keep everything up to date on here so that out of town relatives can keep in touch and see what's going on in our lives. I love blogging, even if just to rant or rave about something, and I think this will be beneficial for me. So, bookmark my blog and keep checking back as I update!
